Introduction

MageBackup is a professional Magento module designed to allow you to backup your magento websites. It brings to you a complete backup solution with AJAX backup process, multiple backup profiles, cloud upload and much more.

Usage

1. Installation

After purchasing, you can download Mage Backup. The file that you download normally is a zip file.

  • It is required to enable cache in the administrative panel of your Magento site. Go to System → Cache Management. Select all caches and click "Enable" and submit.
  • On the dashboard in Magento Admin Panel, click System → Magento Connect → Magento Connect Manager.
  • Upload the zip file to your website.
  • Commit changes and refresh cache. Go to System → Cache Management. Choose all caches and click "Refresh" and submit.
  • Drive back to the Admin Panel to see the successful installation.

2. Instruction

2.1 Manage Profiles

As can be seen, this page lists all the profiles with details of name, backup type, cron and cloud upload. You can easily edit or delete the chosen ones.

Click the Add New Profile button on the top-right corner of Manage Profiles page, showing at these four tabs.

  • General Configuration:

    Profile Name, Backup Type and Enable Cron are required options. You also need to add other options to complete the full profile. Options in cron configuration can start making backup automatically on scheduled and in limited time.

  • Cloud Configuration

    You can choose to create backup from FTP server or cloud storage.

    • FTP Server: Fill out the options for username, password and path to connect to FTP server.
    • Amazon S3: Both of the bucket and directory options need to be filled out.
    • Dropbox: To start working with Dropbox, just indicate to your Dropbox storage with login details to define a folder to keep backups there. After that, Mage Backup will make remote backup and send files to Dropbox folder. It is also easy to share folder and provide permission for other developers to restore the package.

    Click to choose excluded files/folders which will not be stored before the backup.

    Chosen tables and databases will be quarantined from the backup.

2.2. Manage Backups

  • After creating profiles, you can start a backup by choosing Backup Now.

  • Profile option allow you to select one among created profiles as well as to add description and comment.

  • Keep on waiting until you receive the successful message.

3. Restore Backups

Mage Backup has not supported to store backups automatically yet so you need to do some more manipulations manually. However, these steps are quite simple and easy.

  • Step 1: Download backup's zip file.
  • Step 2: Extract zip file in allocated site or folder to restore.
  • Step 3: Import database files which can be found in “/var/magebackup” of extracted folder.

If you want to set up a new site (normally being used for server migration), you need to edit the database connection information ìn file “/app/etc/local.xml”.
